WHAT TO PACK
WHERE TO GO
ARRIVAL
Most people will leave immediately following church on Sunday, but you are welcome to arrive anytime after noon on Sunday.
DAILY
We will spend Monday and Tuesday hanging out on the Guadalupe River at the camp. There is no “can ban” on this portion of the river, so you can bring beer in cans, as well as other disposable containers. Feel free to bring a camping chair, hammock, tube, ice chest, or anything else you might want to make your day more relaxing. We’ll have a grill and will cook a meal each day for lunch. Anyone who is interested in a short (about 1 hour) float can be shuttled up the river a short distance, and end at our camp site. Otherwise, the water is usually calm on this portion of the river and is perfect for just hanging out and leisurely floating or swimming.
The camp also has a labyrinth, outdoor worship/meditation space, ga-ga ball pit, playground, sand volleyball court, and lots of space to hike. Deer and rabbits are common sightings.
Feel free to explore on your own in New Braunfels or Greune if you prefer not to spend time on the river or want some time on your own.
DEPARTURE
Most will depart by noon on Wednesday. However, checkout time is not until 3pm.
We'll be staying in the Bizer Retreat Center at Slumber Falls. This is the first area of cabins after you have entered the front gate.
WHAT TO EXPECT
FOOD & DRINK
MEALS PROVIDED
The Retreat Center has a full-sized kitchen where we will prepare our own meals. We usually cook a large breakfast and dinner. We’ll throw something on the grill for lunch on the days we’re at the river. Click HERE to see the menu for the trip.
SNACKS & DRINKS
Please feel free to bring any snacks you want, any other food items you want, along with anything you want to drink. (Beer and wine are allowed. Be sure to bring plenty of bottled water, or a reusable water bottle.)
ICE CHEST
Refrigerator space is extremely limited, so it would be helpful if everyone brings an ice chest to keep in your cabin to store your drinks.
SHOPPING
There is an HEB within a few minutes of the camp.
ICE
We will have access to an ice machine.
The Bizer Retreat Center consists of eight separate cabins, along with a large meeting center. Each cabin has two sets of bunk beds and a private bathroom. The cabins are air-conditioned.
The meeting center has a full-sized kitchen and two separate large living room-type spaces. We tend to set the kids up in one space with movies (there is a projector and screen), games, etc., and the adults take over the second space.
WiFi is available.
